Description

Barbera d’Alba Marun 2016 Matteo Correggia

Variety: Barbera 100%

The grapes that make up perhaps the most famous Barbera d’Alba, come from a single vineyard called Marun in the municipality of Canale. Soil has a composition of 64% fine sand, 4% coarse sand, 30% silt and the remaining 2% clay.

The sun exposure sees a orientation of the vineyard towards the south. The altitude varies from 290 to 310 meters above sea level.

Training system: it is a counter espalier with guyot pruning.

The older part has a traditionally wider planting area with a distance of 80cm between the plants). To counteract the considerable strength of the soil, and the typical vigor of the Barbera variety, since 2011 they have gone to narrower sixths of planting, in order to have more vines per hectare. The density is therefore passed from 5000 to 8000 plants per hectare. In this way the individual plants produce less bunches, but of higher quality.

Yield per hectare: it is 45 hectoliters.

The harvest is done manually around the end of September.

Alcoholic fermentation takes place over a period of 8 to 10 days in stainless steel containers.

Aged for at least 15 months, partly in large 30-hectolitre barrels and partly in used barriques. After assembling, rest for at least another 10 months in the bottle.

Barbera d’Alba Marun 2016 Matteo Correggia

Ruby red in color, almost impenetrable to light.

The nose is fruity with aromas and very fine aromas of cherry and wild berries. Mint, cigar tobacco and vanilla follow.

In the mouth, keeping all the promises made to the nose, it is impressive with a substantial and gratifying balance between hardness and softness. It has elbanza and together thickness in the sip. The finish is very persistent. On the back smell aromas of ripe fruit and mint.

2016 has been an excellent year throughout Piedmont, the Roero area is no exception, and the Correggia show an excellent variation of Marun. A great Barbera

La Marun was the first Barbera to refine in barrique. Since 1987. Since then the proportions of the woods used have changed, towards a greater balance between dimensions, passages and toasting.
