Roero Riserva Vigna Sant’Anna 2016 Antica Cascina dei Conti di Roero

Variety: Nebbiolo 100%

Coming from a single vineyard, perched on a “Bricco”, in the municipality of Monteu Roero. Average age of the vineyard between 60 and 65 years. Due to the steepness and age of the system, all the work is done by hand.

Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel containers, and is carried out with the sole use of indigenous yeasts present in the vineyard and in the cellar. It is aged in 30 hectolitre oak barrels.

Roero Riserva Vigna Sant’Anna 2016 Antica Cascina dei Conti di Roero

Garnet red.

The nose has wonderful aromas of mint, which anticipate everything else. Ripe fruit with plums, and flowers with violet and dried flowers. The undergrowth with all its variations, the leaves, the moss, the dry branches. There is no lack and embellish the whole china and rhubarb. The whole is really fascinating, and the mint aromas are so clear that they can almost be called francs.

On the palate it confirms the many expectations of the olfactory prospectus. Excellent vintage, which allowed a perfect ripening of the fruit, and consequently an excellent balance between hardness and softness. Tannins, as is obvious, and minerality as the soil grants, stand out among the hardness and dialectically oppose glycerine and the heat expressed by the alcohol degree.

It remains in the mouth with authority. The ending is persistent. In the back smell aromas of aromatic herbs arrive, and among them the basil.

I don’t need many reflections to reward him with excellence.

Great interpretation of Nebbiolo from the other part of the Tanaro. Antica Cascina dei Conti di Roero produces clean and fascinating wines.

The relationship with the price is advantageous.
