Description

Alto Adige Val Venosta Sauvignon 2017 Falkenstein

Variety: Sauvignon Blanc 100%

The part of the vineyard where sauvignon plants are planted has a height between 600 and 700 meters above sea level and is 1.5 hectares in size.

The harvest is done manually. Sauvignon ferments in large acacia barrels, and always in the same containers it ages for ten months on the fermentation lees. It matures for another twelve months in the bottle and then arrives on the market.

The renowned Falkenstein farm, in Italian the Rocca del Falco, owned by the Pratzner family for 400 years, is located above Naturno, in Val Venosta, close to Mount Sonnenberg, in Italian Monte del Sole. In 1989 the current owner Franz Pratzner and his wife Bernadette decide to abandon apple cultivation and concentrate on wine production. Another stage of evolution occurs in 1995, when they choose to market their wines with their own label.

Alto Adige Val Venosta Sauvignon 2017 Falkenstein

Straw yellow with green reflections.

The nose has aromas of citrus fruits, in particular pink grapefruit, elderflower. Swirling the glass come aromas of exotic fruit, such as passionflower, and tomato leaf. Some sensations of white melon and celery increase complexity and charm.

On the palate it is precise and balanced with excellent hardness to prevail slightly on softness. Tasty minerality that you can perceive with sharpness and the acidity that induces salivation. The sugar residue is almost non-existent, therefore the softness boasts of having the warmth expressed by the alcohol content and the creaminess of the glycerines as singers. The overall profile is decidedly fascinating.

The vineyard is located in a particularly suitable area, located on steep slopes facing south, at an altitude ranging from 590 to 900 m asl. The sun hits the bunches for most of the day, generating hot days and cool nights, so to have an excellent temperature range. Detail that allows you to naturally develop the scents and aromas of the white grape varieties they cultivate: Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer and above all the Riesling Renano, which is rightly considered one of the best in southern Germany. Absolutely not to forget the excellent Pinot Noir, year after year more and more precise and characteristic. For several years he too has been one of the best in the whole region and in Italy.
