Description

Barolo Riserva Bussia 2013 Livia Fontana

Variety: Nebbiolo 100%

Barolo produced from the Bussia vineyard in Monforte d’Alba, certainly one of the 10 best crus of the whole Barolo appellation.

Garnet red color.

The nose has aromas of red fruit from the stem, in particular the ripe red cherry. Then aromas of aromatic herbs, especially mint. Carob and shrub berries enrich the bouquet. The powder, the tobacco and the ferrous notes referable to the blood widen it further.

It is conspicuous on the palate, with all the hardnesses ready to give a splendid shape. The tannin in particular, despite being manifested at every sip, appears to have no spines. Velvety and gentle it embraces everything without tightening and excessively puncturing. The finish is very persistent, with aromas already identified in the nose, with the addition of plum and licorice stick, which embellish the closure.

Among the Baroli, those of Bussia express the perfect synthesis, between the elegance of Castiglione Falletto and the power of Serralunga d’Alba.

Barolo Riserva Bussia 2013 Livia Fontana

The part of the famous Bussia vineyard owned by Livia Fontana, has an average altitude of 300 meters above sea level, a south-west exposure and a surface of half a hectare.

The Cru Bussia includes Bussia Sottana and Bussia Soprana with the Sottana which also includes Munie and Pugnane. And it is in Munie that their vineyard is situated. It is exposed to south-west and west and the average altitude is about 300 meters.

The soil is composed of clayey marls with a particularly homogeneous soil and low permeability. Barolo Bussia is a very fruity wine, powerful and with more decisive tannins than those of Castiglione Falletto. It is a long-lived Barolo, structured to slowly improve over time.

Livia Fontana’s company has existed since 1850, but now it is admirably conducted by her and her two children. Lorenzo helps him in commercial terms, while Michele is the author, who rules the field and the cellar.
