On the nose the perception is clean and clear. It has splendid aromas of ripe fruit. The plum in particular. There is no shortage of flowers, and some scents of the undergrowth. However what makes it stand out are the ideas of cinchona and rhubarb. They make it recognized and appreciated as a classy Nebbiolo.
On the palate it is immediate, elegant and really pleasant. It does not betray the soil and the variety of origin, with luxuriant but gentle tannins and a lovely minerality. On the back smell aromas of quince arrive.
Truly one of the best Nebbiolos, and not only for the quality / price ratio.
Due to its flexibility, it happily accompanies an infinite number of dishes, both traditional and oriental, Caribbean and avant-garde cuisine.
Nebbiolo d’Alba 2019 Antica Cascina dei Conti di Roero
The vineyard faces southwest, in the municipality of Vezza d’Alba. The layout recalls the Greek amphitheaters, with the Cascina Valmera in the center instead of the stage and the plants, which surround it, rising upwards.
Soil is sandy marl, a reminder of a sea that once covered these lands. The particularity of the terrain allows the Nebbiolo to express itself in a typically elegant way.
After the harvest carried out manually, the alcoholic fermentation takes place in steel containers, at a controlled temperature for an average time of 15 days. After the first one, the transfer is carried out in the malolactic tank.
Part of the mass ages in second passage barriques and the remainder in large barrels for about 8-9 months. Finally, it is assembled in steel for 4-5 months, before going into the bottle.
